New methods using ultra-high brilliant sources for surface and cluster physics

May 18-23 and June 7-8, 2009, Summer Course for Nordic and Baltic Research Students

The course will cover the science of normal and exotic surface physics in the perspective of the emerging X-ray sources.

The course consists of two parts

a. Lectures at Pühajärve Estonia, May 18-23
b. Practicals at MAX-lab, June 7-8
Practical part of the school will include participation in the experiments at four experimental stations:

  • at the undulator-based Beamline I311 there will be two different experiments running: at the surface station with electron spectroscopy using an electron energy analyzer, and at the x-ray photoelectron microscope.
  • at the undulator-based Beamline I411 there will be a photoelectron spectroscopy experiment on a liquid jet.
  • at the dipole-magnet-based Beamline D1011 there will an experiment on magnetic samples, on which circular magnetic dichroism measurements will be possible to carry out.
  • A possibility is discussed to run x-ray absorption experiments at the undulator-based Beamline I511.

Application

Applications to be sent in before April 5th, 2009.
There will be a form to fill in on the homepage of MAX-lab.

Nordic and Baltic Research Students can apply to the course.
All costs including lectures, lodging and travels is supported by NordForsk.
