Scope of the Workshop

In this workshop we will work to define more clearly the scientific directions and goals to be pursued at NanoMAX - the first imaging beamline at MAX IV. The workshop has two main goals: Firstly, to coordinate and understand in more detail the scientific goals and needs of future Swedish, Scandinavian and international users of the beamline. Secondly, for the scientific community to get a deeper understanding of the experimental potential and possibilities at such beamlines. This should allow us, together, to develop a more final portfolio of scientific ideas and projects to be pursued, and to get closer to a final design of the beamline.

The workshop will be held 18-19 October 2011 at the Royal Institute of Technology Stockholm (KTH), Albanova University Center. The workshop will include a description of the presently envisioned beamline design based on previous input from the community, and it should have many strong contributions from future users. To set the scene properly and get constructive discussions going we will have a few prominent invited speakers, with experience of micro/nano diffraction from various scientific fields. The workshop is part of the MAX IV - 2020 and beyond science vision workshop series
More detailed information will be published here, however mark your calendars now and please inform your colleagues and co-workers about the event.

About the NanoMAX Beamline

The hard X-ray imaging beamline NanoMAX is one of seven beamlines funded from the beginning of the MAX IV operation. NanoMAX - is proposed to enable high resolution imaging applications exploring diffraction, scattering, fluorescence and other methods. The major design consideration of NanoMAX should be the use of MAX IV’s exceptional low emittance and the resulting coherence properties of the X-ray beam. This will make the NanoMAX beamline a flagship beamline for MAX IV showcasing the full potential of the ring and introducing a variety of new tools for many different research communities. NanoMAX aims for a final resolution goal of 10 nm while keeping the option of flexible beam sizes up to about 1 micrometer providing the possibility of matching spot size and divergence to the experimental requirements. The beamline will feature two endstations: One with beamsizes down to 300 nm, extremely well suited for scattering and coherence experiments in very flexible sample environments. A second endstation will reach the highest possible resolution with the options of doing diffraction and fluorescence experiments on very small nanoscale objects.
