Injection scheme for MAX I & MAX II
|
MAX I has a rather limited beam life time, about 500 mAh, due to its low electron energy and several injections per day are needed.
MAX II has a much longer beam life time, about 4000 mAh, and only one injection per day is generally needed.
|
|
During weeks scheduled for synchrotron radiation injections are planned to take place within the
time-slots listed below from Tuesday through Sunday. Mondays are used for maintenance,
up-grades etc.

In case of an accidental beam loss in MAX I or MAX II a new injection will in general be made at the next
scheduled injection time for MAX I. These injection times also apply when MAX I is operated in
pulse-stretcher mode.
|
| In case of a beam loss call the stand-by machine operator, the phone number is found on the white-board. |
| In case of a beam loss occurring after mid-night a new injection has to wait until the next morning. |
|
Accidental beam losses are rare, but when they occur they may be caused by a malfunctioning sub-system
in the accelerator system which needs the attention of expertise in the technical staff. The person responsible
for injection decides on the action to be taken, depending on the nature of the fault and the anticipated time
needed for repair. Extensive repairs can only be made during normal office hours.
