MAX-lab

.

The course will cover the science of normal and exotic surface physics in the perspective of the emerging X-ray sources. This summer school has a long history,
and it has already generated 19 professors!

The school is free of charge for students from Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark,
and Iceland. In addition, via the Röntgen-Ångström cooperation the school is also free of charge for applicants from northern Germany. Other European students and Scandinavian industrial researchers are welcome to apply, but have to pay for travel expenses and housing. The housing amounts to SEK 8000.

The course consists of two parts

  • Lectures at Odengården, Röstånga, June 13-18. Map
  • Practice at MAX-lab, Lund, June 19-21.

    Programme

Here is a link to the programme.

An experimental program is included into the course. The experiments can be chosen from the following list during the first week at summer school. X-ray photoelectron microscopy at beamline I311, MAX II

    • Characteristics of undulator spectra at beamline I411, MAX II
    • Resonant inelastic X-ray scattering (RIXS) spectroscopy at beamline I511, MAX II
    • Protein crystallography at beamline I911-2, MAX II
    • Small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) experiment at beamline I911-4, MAX II
    • Experiment on X-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) at beamline I1011, MAX II
    • Angle resolved photo electron spectroscopy (ARPES) and low energy electron diffraction (LEED) at beamline I4, MAX III
    • Diagnostics of the electron beam and machine functions, beamline D6, MAX III

    Application

    Registration is now closed.

    Notice of acceptance

After the deadline for registration, May 2, a committee has met and decided which applicants will be accepted for this year's Nordic Summer School. All applicants have been informed by e-mail of acceptance / no acceptance.

    Practical information

All costs including lectures, lodging and travels is supported by NordForsk for students from
Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, and Iceland.
