Synchrotron Infrared Microspectroscopy

2005-12-20

Observe that application-time  for beamtime will come in the beginning of 2006 (february). It will be announced on MAX-labs homepage (www.maxlab.lu.se).

The microscope is working with internal light sources. All detectors are installed except the FPA, which had to be returned to the factory. We have been working in the nir, mid ir and fir regions.

External users have been measuring in all three regions.

We have a 15x and a 36x objective that covers all regions. The ATR (Ge) crystal allows us to reach 500 cm1.   We also have a GIR-objective for surface studies.

The detectors are:

2 MCT-detectors, one with a small active area, specially for high spatial resolution.

1 indium antimonide detector for the near infrared region.

1 specially designed bolometer for the far infrared part.

All these detectors can be used together with the computer controlled xy-table to make mapping experiments.

Soon we will hopefully also have the FPA (Focal Plane Array) detector with 128*128 MCT-elements which will make mapping experiments very much faster.

Synchrotron light has been used with the microscopy, although not yes optimized. During the next synchrotron radiation period which starts 2006-01-16 we will try to optimize the present configuration. Future plans involve changing the transfer optics.
