COURSES IN ACCELERATOR PHYSICS

Accelerators can be found everywhere in the world around us. From the TV-set we watch at night, via accelerators for medical treatments to gigantic installations for science. The science and technology around accelerating particles is focused into the subject of accelerator physics.
We, accelerator physicists, study how to accelerate particles, how they behave during acceleration, what electric and magnetic fields do the accelerators require, what happens when the intensity of particles increases and many other aspects of particle acceleration.
Accelerator technique
( MNX301 - 5 p.)
The techniques of particle accelerators: electromagnetic fields, particle sources, accelerator types, vacuum, basic physics, magnetic elements, synchrotron radiation
Accelerator physics
( ACCFYS - 5 p.)
The physics of particle accelerators: beam optics, lattice design, instabilities, damping, chromatic effects
Diploma work (ex-jobb)
Diploma work for physics or engineering students: magnets, Radio frequency, simulations, RF-guns, instabilities, diagnostics
PhD studies
Studies for a PhD in Accelerator physics: Free Electron Lasers, damping mechanisms, electron gun development, harmonic generation, superconducting magnets
