The thermionic RF-gun produces an electron bunch with a long low energy tail. This is filtered away in an energy filter, which consists of two 60 degree bends and 5 focusing quadrupoles. The energy filter can also slightly compress the electron bunch.

The RF-gun is placed in the arm to the lower right. The electrons exit in the top right to the linac.
