The new injector and MAX III

The two storage rings at MAX lab are currently depending on an old Racetrack microtron for injection. The microtron was built in the late seventies and is becoming of mature age. For the day of her retirement we need to be prepared with a new system taking the injector place. Thus a 500 MeV recirculated electron linac is under construction.

The MAX II storage ring was built as a third generation synchrotron radiation source to serve experiments in the UV and soft X-rays. This was before the advent and boom in X-ray crystallography. Today the demand for beamtime by crystallographers has created the need for a new source dedicated to those intermediate energy experimentalist. The MAX III storage ring will operate at 700 MeV providing an excellent and reliable source in UV range.

A quick overview is found by the menue on the left. A full description with details is given in the project report.
